The Smart Traveler's Checklist

In your Wallet:

  • 2 international credit cards (different issuers)
  • additional ID-card (not your passport)
  • frequent flyer card
  • 100 USD in cash
  • 100 USD equivalent in foreign currency
  • travel insurance card (for fore information on travel insurance read here)

On your body:

  • current passport (should be valid at least 6 months after you intend to leave the country)
  • Airline Ticket (prefer physical paper ticket - otherweise printout of e-ticket with confirmation code and booking number)
  • Emergency Info Paper (for details see our 6 Essential Tips for Paranoid Travelers)
  • Cell phone (battery should be fully charged)

In your hand lunggage:

  • A travel guide on the country you are visiting
  • a small dictionary with the language spoken in the country
  • A book to read
  • A Sweat-Shirt (Usualy it's cold on airplanes - when you sleep your body cools down even more)
  • A Walkman, CD-Player, i-pod or equivalent (charge before boarding - usually you can only recharge in business class)
  • A copy of your passport
  • map of the city you are going to
  • Aspirin (some airlines refuse to give you - or make you sign a paper before)
